Would the process of atopping a car be: potential, pushing down the brake; kinetic, signal traveling to the brakepad; potential, the start of the brakes squeezing; kinetic, the motion of the brakes; the potential energry of the inner brakes on the kinetic energy of the pad-slowing the spinning pad down?
